TCS Haagse Hopjes Chocolate TrufflesThe story goes that around the year 1794, Baron Hendrik Hop left his coffee with sugar and milk on the stove. The next day he found a creamy mass in his pot that tasted delicious (luckily his house hadn't burned down, but that's beside the point).
We had to do something with that as residents of The Hague in chocolate!
The collaboration with Tom from Cru de Cacao is going so well that we have designed the tastiest chocolate truffle together, which perfectly fits this story. You can taste the caramel and coffee and their history in every bite of the truffle.
A perfect gift for tourists or when you visit outside The Hague. But also super tasty for yourself, or just for.....Scroll down for the ingredients list
Now taste the Old Dutch sweet the Haagse Hopje as a chocolate truffle specially developed for the coffee caramel fan!
Who doesn't know the Old Dutch sweet the Haagsche Hopje? We have given this sweet with its unique coffee caramel flavour a new look, namely in a chocolate truffle! The Haagse Hopjes Truffles® are filled with a ganache of coffee and caramel (secret recipe from our Pastry Chef Tom Stalpers) and coated with the Grand Cru Maracaibo Créolo (49%). To finish, the truffles are rolled in finely ground caramel and cocoa powder.
Meanwhile, this truffle has become known in The Hague and the surrounding areas as a luxury chocolate treat with a good cup of coffee or tea (or just secretly as a snack).
Myth of The Hague Hopjes
There are various versions of the story about the origin of the famous sweet ‘t Haagsche Hopje. One version suggests that a certain Hendrik Hop left his cup of coffee with cream and sugar on the stove overnight. The next morning, it had turned into a hard lump that tasted delicious! In any case, that one Hendrik has provided quite a bit of inspiration, including in our chocolate shop in Tilburg.
Grand Cru Maracaibo Créolo (49%)
For the chocolate truffle the Hague Hopje, Grand Cru milk chocolate Maracaibo Créolo (49%) has been used, as this chocolate naturally has a cream-caramel note. This chocolate comes from Venezuela, more specifically the cocoa region Sur del Lago. This cocoa region is located next to Lake Maracaibo, which is where this chocolate gets its name.
